Don't Settle Interview Series With Melanie Marie

I set a goal, about a year ago, to only surround myself with women who are doing what I do or doing what I want to do. This was a strategic move on my part to position myself to step my entire life up.
There is one area, in particular, I wanted to work on and that is my momprenuership. That is a phrase coined by moms who are killing it in business and in their families.  I used to feel bad about my desire to be both an intentional mother and focused business woman. I thought I needed to choose.  I thought I would miss out on real success if I focused on my family. I thought I would miss out on building a meaningful family if I focused on business. I was wrong.  You don't have to choose either, or... you can have both.
I met Melanie Marie not too long ago. She's one of those women who are killing it in both motherhood and business; and she teaches other women to do the same. Melanie has two awesome custom jewlery lines.  She creates beautiful pieces for mamas and their babies.
I asked Melanie to chat with me about her life and how she chose not to settle, and she said yes.
Nakeia: Hey Melanie! I was so excited to introduce you, but who do you say that you are?

Melanie: My name is Melanie, owner of Melanie Marie Accessories & AnnDrew Marie Accessories. I recently created a mommy and me lifestyle blog. I am a Mompreneur that is dedicated to help women take the leap into entrepreneurship. My company began as an accessory company in 2009, but has since branched out into philanthropy, youth empowerment and entrepreneurship advising. I also launched a mentorship program called MM Gems & Jewels.  It is an exciting platform for under privileged young girls to discover their passions, set goals and apply what they are learning in school to their daily lives. In a nutshell, I am a woman that cares about helping other women achieve their dreams!

Nakeia: Whew! What an amazing woman you are! When I first started following you and saw all of the things you have your hands on, I knew I had to stay connected. Now tell me,  who were you before knowing all of that?

Melanie: Before I was all of that, I was a nurse. I went to school for nursing, got my bachelors degree and got a job. I always had an entrepreneurial spirit and I couldn't let it die, so I went after my dreams to become that person above.
Nakeia: You see what I mean, hands on everything! Was there a moment in your life when you made a conscious decision NOT to settle?

Melanie: Of course! I grew up in a family that care deeply about education. My mother and grandmother always said, go to college, get good grades, graduate and get a good job with benefits. I did that but was not happy working for someone else. I got tired of not living out my dreams. I put a plan in motion to become an entrepreneur and then when I felt everything was where I needed it to be, I quit!
Nakeia: Just like that. huh? You walked away from your 9-5 to work for yourself. Love it! No fear... Where would you be had you NOT made that decision?

Melanie: Well I didn't quit just like that... But had I not quit, I would still be working for someone else. I would still be unhappy and just imagining how my life would be had I went after my dreams.
Nakeia: I hear you, girl... So here's my favorite question for you. What advice would you give to someone who is tired of settling or on the verge of settling?

Melanie: When you settle, you are keeping yourself in a stagnant space and you are not allowing your mind to live freely. You will always be thinking about the "what ifs" and you will never truly be happy. Sometimes, people feel they have no other option but to settle. There is always another option. I would tell the person tired of settling, to just stop! Write down what you want. Read it every morning and every night. Imagine yourself living the life you want. Manifest your destiny. Go after what you want and never give up. Have the confidence to believe in yourself and don't let anyone deter you from your end goal. You will be proud that you did.
Nakeia: You will absolutely be proud that you did.  Thank you so much! That is solid advice. Write down what you want and read it every night... and go after it.
